Tales from a self catering holiday provider

Which do you think is more spectacular… the drive from Bethesda up the Ogwen Valley or the drive from Llanberis up to Pen-y-Pass?

I usually only usually drive down these passes (for some strange reason) and yes they are both quite spectacular.

Tonight, in the half light, I drove up the Ogwen Valley and was amazed at how spectacular it really is. My car felt dwarfed by the scale of the steep sides of the valley… a typical glaciated valley. The slabs of Cwm Idwal loomed at the head of the valley.

I would’ve loved to have been able to take some photos but it was too dark. I must drive back up there again when there is a bit more light.

Anyway… if you know the two passes in question what are your thoughts… Llanberis or Ogwen?

I have not had the chance to explore the countryside that you are talking about – but would love to. Now you have got me thinking and when I get an opportunity I’ll have to drive to find out which is best.

    • Take yourself out for a spin… Sunday afternoon! Drive down the A5 through Betws-y-Coed and keep on the A5 towards Bethesda. You will then drive down the Ogwen Valley. After Bethesda turn left and head for Llanberis and then back up to Pen-y-Pass passing Snowdon.
Spectacular scenery all the way and really right on our doorstep. Googlemaps says that the whole journey, from Wrexham and back, will take 3 and a quarter hours but you’ll want to stop several times to take the various scenes in.
Let me know when you’ve done it

  2. Ogwen Valley is definitely my favourite!
